Malik Mudssar Ahmed, Senior Vice President of Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) said that Pakistan cannot compete in the international market due to frequent increase of utility tariffs and unusually high fuel price. He said Government should provide level playing field to the domestic industry so that the local industry could survive price wise in the international market.
He showed his anger and raised voice and protest that utility tariffs in Pakistan were already one of the highest in the region, putting the country at a great disadvantage in export against regional competitors, adding that the recent oil price hike would certainly push Pakistan out of competition in world market
Malik Mudassar Ahmed said that Pakistani products were unable to compete in the international market because of high cost of manufacturing and post production cost. He said that on the one hand Pakistan was facing acute shortage of sui gas and electricity and on the other hand industry were closing down because of deteriorating law and order situation.
He said Pakistan can only overcome these problems just to take the representatives of different Chambers of Commerce, Trade & Industrial Associations or board before implementing any decision such as increasing the utility rates, oil and gas charges. He said that Government should take immediate steps to increase industrial production and local trading activities so that local investors could be encouraged and stop thinking to shift their investment out of Pakistan.
