Honorable Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Prime Minister’s Office, Islamabad

Subject:   Your facilitation to trade and industry with yield confidence and better results

Honorable Sir,
We avail this opportunity to present our best compliments to you and welcome in District Sheikhupura. It is a matter of great appreciation that you are visiting Sheikhupura for the Ground Breaking Ceremony of Bikhi Power Plant to overcome energy crises in future for better economic health of the country. We have few questions in mind how your staff work for business issues in Sheikhupura. How many meetings they have arranged to analyze the problems of trade & industry of Sheikhupura with Sheikhupura CCI, Sheikhupura Association of Industry and Anjuman-e-Tajran. What mechanism they have created to settle the issues in future. The answer is very simple nobody turn up to meet with these trade bodies.

On this happy occasion, we would like to draw your kind attention towards our under mentioned problems which has not been resolved despite our repeated requests to Honorable Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister and other High ups of Government of the Punjab. It is an ample opportunity for us to request you to resolve our undermentioned problems on priority basis so that citizens and the business community of Sheikhupura feel pride that their most popular Prime Minister have great love for them. No doubt, Sheikhupura is one of the most important industrial District of Punjab. At present, the infrastructure of Sheikhupura is not in very good shape as sewerage system and drain on Lahore-Sheikhupura –Faisalabad Road has not been completed. Dirty water and solid waste can be seen moving on the roads and streets of the Sheikhupura which causes dengue, malaria fever and other epidemic diseases.

PROBLEM & SUGGESTIONS

• Shortage of electricity and sui gas have ruined the industrial process of the country and many industrial units have reached at the brink of closure. The generation and provision of electricity on cheaper rate along with sources of alternative energy should be introduced in the country like Bikhi Power Plant.
• It has been observed that Sheikhupura CCI has not been provided opportunities by Government Departments to join the foreign delegations visiting different countries for the promotion of trade & industry. Please direct all concerned departments to give representation in foreign delegations to SCCI in future.

• Recently Government of the Punjab has extended the role of LDA to District Sheikhupura. As you know LDA is not a successful institution. It is therefore requested that Sheikhupura Development Authority (SDA) should be established in Sheikhupura to cope with the civic amenities.
• District Sheikhupura is very rich in culture and heritage sector because a famous Hiran Minar, Qila Sheikhupura, Tomb of Peer Waris Shah are located here. Hiran Minar and five other Motorway Interchange has linked the Sheikhupura with rest of the country. Tourism facilities can be provided to local and foreign tourists easily.  Kindly direct the concerned Departments to renovate these historical sites for the attraction of tourists.
• Industrial Estates play a significant role in strengthening the economy of any country so Industrial Estates and labor colonies should be establish in Sheikhupura like other cities of Punjab.
• Sheikhupura Dry Port Trust project have already been approved by the Economic Coordination Committee but matter is delayed, which needs your intervention for speedy completion of this project.
• For generation of business and economic activities different road links must be provided between Sheikhupura and Sharqpur, and between Kot Pindi Das and Kala Shah Kaku. More road links should also be provided to link the Sheikhupura with other surrounding District and towns.
• The Chief Minster Punjab has established “Rice City” in Sheikhupura for the export of quality rice but development work is going on with slow pace.
• There is no labor colony, no sports ground, no amusement park, no swimming pool; no garden is available in this important industrial city. Resultantly, workers are being involved into negative activities which increase the crime rate including usage of heroin, chars and other drugs. Therefore these facilities should be provided in District Sheikhupura.
• It has been observed due to increase of population the ratio of accidents have been increased considerably. Therefore Rescue 1122 maybe established between Khanpur Canal and Javed Nagar so that medical and ambulance facilities could early be provided to the injured passengers and citizen during accidents.
• CPLC database like CPLC Karachi should also be established in Sheikhupura to control the increasing crime rates in District Sheikhupura.
• District Public Safety Commission should be formed as early as possible.
• It is pity to note that our educational system does not cater the modern educational facilities as schools and colleges are running without trained and experienced teachers, laboratories and furniture. These facilities should be provided in school and college of Punjab with mobile library and laborites so that students could avail benefits from these modern facilities.
• It should be made mandatory for all graduate & post graduate students to teach in school and colleges for at least one year before joining any Government job.

• The matter concerning with allotment of land for Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) building is still pending. A piece of land for establishment of Sheikhupura CCI building should be provided on priority basis.
• The Government of Punjab should introduce tracking system for the official letters written to the different Government department so that proper approach may be adapted to fine out the end result of any letter.
• The Government of Punjab has established different provincial statistics offices in different cities of Punjab but their working is not up to mark. It is therefore suggested that these offices should collect District wise data of every Government Department especially concerning with taxes and revenue.
• Representation of Chambers of Commerce should be provided in the Board of Directors of state own organizations like LESCO, SNGPL, LAFCO, BOI for yielding better results.
• All tax Courts and tribunals should be requested to decide all pending commercial, business related cases and resolve the tax related matters in shortest possible time.

We hope you will pay your kind attention towards our above stated problems for providing relief to the citizen, workers and the business community of District Sheikhupura. On this happy occasion we request your good honor to visit Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) on an early date and address our members. We shall be grateful to you.

Assuring you of our best services,

Best Regards,

Manzoor ul Haq Malik
Chairman
Standing Committee for Co-ordination
Former President-SCCI
