The launch ceremony of Triple Helex south Asia chapter was formally launched jointly by Prof. Dr. Henry Etzkowitz – President, Triple Helix Association (via Skype from UK) and Mr. Abid Sharwani, Director General Of University Of management and Technology today at UMT premises.
 
‘‘Today is a defining moment for us and of course a great achievement by any Pakistani university to take the leading role in promoting research through fostering academy-industry-government linkages within the region’’ said Mr. Abid Sharwani, DG, UMT In his opening remarks.
Mr. Sharwani stressed the need for collaboration between the University- Industry and Government. He said that the ultimate solution of economic development in the country is to construct an effective teamwork between University- Industry and Government which is missing at present stage. He assured that UMT will set a direction which shall pull the country out of present economic crises and lead the country toward  overall prosperity.
Prof. Dr. Henry Etzkowitz – President, Triple Helix Association congratulate the management of UMT and hoped  that the Triple Helix Chapter South Asia Pakistan' may bring a positive change by utilizing Triplex Helix concept of promoting research through fostering academy-industry-government linkages. Ha said that the role of Government to facilitate and provide adequate support to research based universities is vital in this regard.
Mr. Tariq Bhatti from Higher Education Commission and a spokesman from Government side said the trust deficit between all the three stakeholders is a big hindrance in both agriculture and economic development. 
Mr. Bhatti was with a view that researched based study and its implementation are  an important for sustainable development in all sectors.  He assured that the government will provide all possible assistance and support to the university if the presented work is highly innovate and applicable.
Mr. Navid Hashmi expressed the similar views and assured to absorb the intellectual from academia in the industrial sector. 
• Prof. Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad – Chairman, Triple Helix Association South Asia emphasized the use of human capital in all three sectors (University- Industry- Government). The ceremony was attended by research scholars, students industrialists and the representatives from the government sector.
