 admin June 5, 2014, 05:13:41 AM

Mr. Manzoor ul Haq Malik, Group Head/Former President and Mian Farooq Ahmed President Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) has said in joint statement that Federal Budget contain no relief for the common man. However people have further been over burdened with multiple taxes amounting to Rs. 500 billion approximately. They said that tax on agriculture sector have once again deliberately been avoided to protect the land lords sitting in the parliament.

On the other hand Government has imposed 17 percent tax on sun flower and canola seeds which will increase the prices of ghee and edible oil and create more problems for the poor masses. They said Finance Minister announce different hydle and other power projects to generate more electricity to overcome energy crises in the country but he did not utter any word about the construction of Kala Bagh Dam which is economically viable and important project of National level to overcome the electricity crises in the country in shortest period of time.

They said non taxpayers have further been overburdened as they have to pay o.2% tax on withdrawal of their amount from Banks and other financial institutions. They said it will discourage and curtail the circulation of money in the market and people will prefer to do business without the involvement of banks which is highly dangerous for the economy of the country. However, no punishment is suggested for the dishonest tax officers, which is against the spirit of justice.

They said more than enough amounts have been allocated for the repayment of interest on different loans on Government borrowings and also taken positive steps to introduce Islamic banking to get rid of interest in future. They said it is healthy sign for the introduction of Islamic Banking in the country. Similarly the establishment of Exim Bank for the promotion of export is also good step towards achieving our export targets under the GSP Plus status. They said Government has given difference incentives to the textile industry but its allied industry have been ignored totally for the same incentives. They demanded like textile industry, machinery of other industries should also be made duty free so that local and foreign investors could be attracted for industrial investment in the country. They said to control inflation to single digit and allocation of sufficient funds for health and education sectors are positive steps for the promotion of health and education facilities in the country.
