Govt allows import of five-year-old buses, trucks |

The government has included buses and trucks in the list of five-year-old commercial vehicles that are being imported in the country under personal baggage and gift schemes, a commerce ministry directive showed. Moreover, the government has also allowed commercial import of three-year old buses and all these permissions have been granted through an order issued on May 16. Few months ago, the government had allowed the import of five-year-old passenger cars and enhanced the depreciation limit on them from 50 to 60 percent. Abdul Waheed Khan, Director General Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), said the latest step taken by the government was a sheer violation of the Trucking Policy 2007. The Auto Industry Development Programme (AIDP) developed in 2006 for the benefit of the local industry has not been implemented, he said. Among other things, the AIDP also sought to regulate import of used vehicles in a way that it did not affect production and sales of local vehicles. Full story
