SAARC Mela scheduled in first week of April by a group of women Entrepreneurs in Karachi is not an event of SAARC Chamber’s Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC), which is the sole representative of the Women Entrepreneurs of South Asian Countries and is a approved body under the mandate given under the constitution of SAARC CCI accredited by South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) secretariat at Katmandu. This was stated by Muhammad Iqbal Tabish, Secretary General of SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry adding that the current chair of SCWEC is with Nepal and all national chambers have one Vice Chairperson on the Council having eight members of Executive Council from each member nations of SAARC. He said that the “SAARC Women Association” (SWA) organizers of SAARC Mela is a non accredited body of SAARC and refrained the organizers to can’t use the Brand name of SAARC and further added that the Foreign Ministry in Pakistan and the SAARC Secretariat at Kathmandu may take legal action against such violations.
