KARACHI (July 17 2009): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has initiated an enquiry against five suspended brokers of Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), it is learnt. "This is an impartial enquiry into the business affairs of these brokerage houses being conducted to ascertain the quantum and geniuses of investors\' complaints, in accordance with law," sources told Business Recorder on Thursday. Although, the number of investors\' complaints and the quantum of their claims are not yet announced, however, according to sources, the investors\' total claims against the five suspended brokers are estimated around Rs 1.5 billion. The trading rights of the five KSE members/brokers were suspended by the SECP on June 29, 2009 in the light of investors\' complaints/claims. The SECP announced that the registration of the said five KSE members will be suspended till the claims against them in light of the investors\' complaints can be ascertained and settled in accordance with law. Following the SECP decision, the KSE also suspended the trading rights of these members from June 29, 2009. The names of the KSE members whose trading rights and registration had been suspended are Eastern Capital Limited, Prudential Securities Limited, ClikTrade Limited, MKA Securities (Private) Limited and Capital One Equities Limited. The KSE board of directors, in its meeting on July 14, 2009 gave August 12, 2009 as deadline to these brokers to clear/settle their investors\' claims.
